Skin Care Treatments of Male Models

The world is truly a different place than it was not all that long ago. The fashion world has made some dramatic shifts over the past few years to what is now a focus on gender fluidity and androgynous models, both male and female. But changes, especially for men, have been in the making for much longer. There was a time when a man caught in a beautician’s chair getting his hair cut and styled would have been labeled “gay” without a second thought. Men belonged in barber’s chairs and there was no styling to be done, just the standard cut and go. Today, men are happily getting styled, manicured and even enjoying the wonders of pedicures and facials without anyone’s sexual preference being called into question.
One would think that for male models this practice of paying attention to one’s hair and skin would have always been a focus, but that is not necessarily true. Even men whose livelihoods depend on how they look on a runway or under the harsh lights of a photo shoot have taken these things for granted and assumed that men did not have to go through the same hair and skin care regimens. That is no longer true. Today’s top and aspiring male models pay serious attention, especially when it comes to skin care – many prefer lavelier skincare products.
Everyone has their own routine, of course, and use products that they prefer. Some of the more common practices that professional male models use to keep their skin looking so good include:
Sunscreen – obviously, avoiding sun damage and the resulting premature aging and cancer risk is high on the list.
Drink plenty of water – staying hydrated and flushing toxins from the body has a huge effect on maintaining skin that is youthful and glowing.
Moisturizers – using a quality moisturizer protects the skin from toxins and helps slow the aging process.
Sleep – the body needs adequate and restful sleep to maintain the proper functioning of all bodily organs and the skin is no exception.
Cleansing – washing and exfoliating the skin is crucial for removing the dirt, sweat, bacteria and toxins that build up every day. Never use regular soap on the face because it does not have the correct pH balance and can actually lead to drying it out, inflammation and acne. Find a quality cleanser that is specifically formulated for the face.
Massage – massaging your face not only relieves stress and tension it also increases circulation and promotes better absorption of skin care products. Regular massage at home is a great way to keep that healthy glow and, when possible, a professional massage can be even more beneficial.
Exercise – there isn’t much that regular exercise does not help but what a lot of people may be unaware is that it also does wonders for the skin. The increased circulation is key to healthy looking skin.
Diet – just like exercise, a healthy diet benefits all areas of the body, including the skin. Some things to watch are to avoid dairy, sugar and fried foods, all of which can lead to skin problems. Make sure to get on a program that includes vitamins, especially:
Vitamin A – aids in healthy skin cell production
Vitamin C – slows aging
Vitamin D – increases collagen production and elasticity
Vitamin E – protects against damage from the sun
Vitamin K – lessens dark circles under the eyes
Taking care of their skin is an essential part of being a successful male model. Even though men tend to be able to keep working in this field longer than women do, those who start to look “old” rather than gaining an attractive and healthy maturity, do not last. The really successful ones go the extra mile in self-care and include regular relaxation techniques, which often includes meditation. Stress and tension is a part of our lives and can result in physical aches and pains, inflammation, poor sleep and even cause skin issues. The few minutes dedicated to relaxation every day will more than pay for themselves.
