Father’s Day is a great time to show the old man how much you care about him and are grateful for what he’s done for you and with you over the years. No need to stop at just a card or a necktie – that’s for sons and daughters who don’t want to give much thought or effort to the one day in the year we are encouraged to pull out all the stops for those men who helped bring us into this world. Here are a few fun ideas to let your dad know you really do appreciate him:

It’s Grill Time!

For some fathers nothing says “Way to go!” like a plump juicy steak grilling over some red glowing coals. If your dad is a dedicated carnivore who likes his meat charred and hissing with flavor, give some thought to replacing his old grill with a brand new one. The new makes and models are actually coming down in price and now feature more bells and whistles than ever. If a new grill is just too pricey for you right now, see if your siblings can pitch in and you can give it to him as a group gift. Or think about grilling accessories, like utensils, bags of boutique charcoal, or even an embroidered full-length denim apron. If you’re really smart you’ll buy him a freezer full of grilling meats – steaks, chops, burgers, bratwurst, etc. That way when he fires up the grill he’ll be thinking of you – and will probably have you over for a tasty medium rare treat! Just watch out for him though, dads do get in accidents occasionally.

Take it outdoors

For the outdoors dad there are dozens of gift items he’d appreciate, and probably needs. A good hunting knife is always appreciated by dads who hunt and fish. A fly-tying kit for the fly fisherman not only gives him a token of your affection, but can be a great way for him to spend the long winter months when the trout aren’t biting. Also, if he likes to bike, make sure he stays safe out there with a gift meant only for a helmet; like a decal of some kind.

Take him out to the ball game

Some collars have special features that help the owners in teaching and disciplining the dogs. However, there are some collars that are not recommended to use to some dogs. Meaning to say, not all collars are suitable and applicable for all dogs. There are three main types of dog collars: the regular, the aversive, and the special kind. These differs by their purpose on the dog.

Regular collars are the most commonly used material for this. These includes the flat, martingale, and head collar. Flat collar is the standard one. The main rule for putting collars to the dogs is to have two fingers allowance between the collar and the dog’s neck. Meanwhile, martingale collar is designed for dogs with narrow heads that can slip their heads out of the collar. Some examples of these dogs are Greyhounds Saluki, whippets, and other sighthounds. This collar gets tighter if the dog tries to move out from it. But don’t worry. This won’t choke the dog if properly adjusted. The head collar is different from the two. It composed of a high strap around the neck and a strap on the dog’s muzzle. This is used for strong dogs since the dogs will not be able to remove their own leash.

On the other hand, aversive collars are use train dogs using punishment and physical uneasiness. The choke chain has the same idea with martingale; however, it cannot be controlled. Getting choke or getting strangle are possible with this collar. The shock collars are used to stop the dogs from barking. It is controlled by electric current passing through the metal on the collar. The current varies from a low tickling feeling to a painful one. Having aversive collars should be avoided since this can bring harm to dogs. There should be a proper instruction from a professional trainer if the aversive collars are going to use.

 Moreover, there are more special-use collars that are design for a more specific function. Beside from electric shock, there are other bark control collars that use different mechanisms. There are spray ones that releases air to interrupt dogs from barking and there are also collars using ultrasonic which emits sounds for the dogs when they started barking. Meanwhile, flea or tick collars are used to protect the dogs from getting unwanted parasites. 

There are different types of collars. However, it is still best to ask the professionals in leather belts and dog collars to avoid any problems or pains your dog might experience. After all, they are human’s best friend. They should be treated fairly and love unconditionally.

The Exclusive Remedy of Worker’s Comp

A city employee who worked as a firefighter was ruled against in his Worker’s Compensation lawsuit that alleged a co-firefighting colleague kicked him intentionally in his groin, making his station captain and the entire fire department liable for damages for the resulting injuries.

A trio of judges of the California Court of Appeals in Los Angeles County ruled against the firefighter in Tibbet vs Los Angeles County Fire Dept. The ruling was delivered last week, and said, inpart, that the injuries suffered by Tibbet were judged to be unintentional and so are barred from any Worker’s Compensation payments under the rules of exclusive remedy.

This landmark case stems from a February 2011 incident, when LA County fireman Joshua Tibbetts claimed that he was consulting with his captain about a previous encounter with a hostile citizen at a conflagration. Tibbetts alleges that the captain demonstrated how to handle a hostile citizen at the scene of a blaze by holding up a clipboard to his face and then kicking him in the groin – thus disabling him. It made Tibbetts wonder, “Do I need a personal injury attorney?”

The captain claimed that Tibbetts moved into his kick, which was not meant to make contact with any part of Tibbetts’ private parts.

A trial by jury rendered a verdict that said, in part, that the captain’s actions were not intended to be hostile or to inflict injury, so that using Workers Comp as the exclusive remedy for Tibbetts’ alleged injuries and incapacity was not a legitimate claim.

A trio of judges also turned down Tibbetts’ later appeal for exclusive remedy via Workers Compensation, ruling that the evidence did not conclusively prove that Tibbetts’ captain intended any premeditated or intentional harm.

Though Tibbetts’ lawyer argued that there had been a number of cumulative errors during the initial trial and consequent appellate court appeal, it was determined that there had been no individual error involved in the case, and so was denied.
