Is the plaid working? Let us know!

The U.S. Grand Prix this past October was a high stakes event for a lot of drivers and their sponsors. It was especially challenging for Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari. Often referred to as a Formula One Circus when on summer tour, both AMG Mercedes speedster Lewis Hamilton as well as Vettel were neck and neck for most of the off-season for the championship. Going into the stretch the final victory was still up in the air. But as fall arrived, and with it the chance to win the definitive USGP victory, neither driver could afford to make any mistakes – or let his opponent get the better of him. However, according to Arclight Fab the smart money started to move over into Hamilton’s camp, due to amazingly endless number of blunders that Vettel’s Ferrari race strategists pulled.
Not surprisingly, Hamilton started the USGP weekend as the odds on favorite deep in the heart of Austin, Texas. Las Vegas was giving very generous odds on him winning hands down. Most racing experts didn’t give Vettel much of a chance of even coming in second, which he would have to do to remain viable for the next championship season. Vettel didn’t help himself at all by nabbing a 3 place grid fine early in the contest on Sunday. During the Saturday qualifying runs Hamilton had his place secure at the pole, while Seb Vettel was pushed back to fifth place in the overall roster. The high rollers out in Vegas were now certain that Vettel had dug himself into a hole too deep to come out of without a miracle.
At the blinking signal Hamilton took the lead as clean as a whistle, but there were others who proved more adept on keeping a grip on the tarmac that afternoon. Kimi moved up as turn one turned into turn two. The Ferrari team finally seemed to be functioning as a cohesive unit, instead of a gang of bumbling mechanics, at least until traffic turned the corner on the so-called Mickey Mouse curves at the main straight corner. Things went kerflooey for Vettel at that point, when he rammed Red Bull’s Ricciardo. There was no quick recovery from THAT. By the time Vettel got things straightened out, he was way back in fifteen place out of field of twenty.
As the laps piled up the oddsmakers on both the East and West coasts could draw only one conclusion – Hamilton had the championship in the bag. It was common knowledge that Hamilton had the newest tires of anyone on the rack, including the hard-charging Red Bull jalopy that kept attempting to preempt him on every straight length of track. Vettel was still in the back of the bus, so to speak, hardly making any headway from his first turn debacle.
As the ending approached Hamilton kept up the pressure on driver Verstappen, who had crept ahead while Hamilton wasn’t looking – apparently. But he couldn’t pull it off. So now it was anybody’s guess what was going to happen next, and the oddsmakers closed up shop, figuratively putting up signs reading “Too close to call.” Going off track in the next to last loop, Hamilton fell even further back. Coming up the rear, Vettel was making up for lost time – and some in the grandstand suddenly wondered out loud if he could actually pull his Ferrari chestnuts out of the fire.
In the event, the checkered flag came down on Kimi Raikkonen, with Verstappen second and Hamilton third – and Vettel an inadequate fourth.
