There are times when you can’t get to the gym for a full workout. But that doesn’t mean you have to skip your regular workout and neglect the routine completely.

Workout bands are an inexpensive and convenient alternative to spending an hour or two at the gym. And when you’re traveling and can’t find a gym they are easy to pack and use in a hotel room.

This loop of elastic fabric is a key to keeping your mind and body disciplined to physical exercise. For a full body workout using a stretch band, use these simple exercises:

Put both feet inside the band, then use both hands to pull up slowly into a standing position. Hold the position for at least a count of twenty. Repeat a dozen times. This will tone up leg, back, and arm muscles.

Lying down, stretch the band across your chest with your arms in a T formation. The key is not a quick succession of this exercise, but holding the band in tension for a long count – try for fifty. This tones up the abs, the chest, the arm, and helps with breath control.

Again lying flat, put your feet and hands into the band and stretch out in the four cardinal directions. Hold it for a count of twenty, then repeat for at least ten minutes. This builds strength in the entire torso.

2019 is the year of corduroy. This fustian fabric used to be considered a dead giveaway for geekiness, or something the kiddies wore on the playground. But not anymore.

Corduroy fabrics have made fabulous strides in the past few years, becoming much less stiff and completely machine washable. A great thing about corduroys is that they are extremely color fast. Corduroy slacks won’t fade, even after multiple washings. A dark corduroy suit coat today has such subtle wales, or grooves, woven into it that it can pass at the office and social gatherings. The only fashion caveat that still should be heeded is that corduroy is a fall/winter fabric – not something you’d put on for the summer months, or in the tropics. Although pastel corduroys have been seen from time to time on the beach in Miami and down in Rio.

It’s time to get rid of the notion that to be fashionable and chic a fabric has to be flimsy and wear out after less than a year. Corduroy was originally invented as a worker’s fabric, one that would last for years without needing replacement. Today that same durability means your fashion wardrobe can last from one season to the next without a complete and expensive overhaul.
